Layering 101

The more you wear your clothes, the less the cost per wear -- see our Cost Per Wear blog post. This means you're getting more value out of your clothes. One way to do this is layering! I layer all year long, but especially during transitional months and during the coldest parts of winter. Layering allows you to wear short sleeves, lighter-weight pants, and even tank tops on the coldest of days.
Here are a few tips based on my experience:
- Wear leggings or long underwear under pants/skirts.
- Wear leg warmers or tall wool socks under your pants, especially if they are cropped.
- Find a base layer top that feels good to you. Some people like silk, bamboo, or merino wool. You can add anything on top.
- Cardigans, jackets, and button-down shirts create the perfect outer layer.
- Try wearing a t-shirt over a button-down collared shirt. Like this. Of course I have a base layer underneath as well.
- Scarves keep your neck warm and can be taken off if you get too warm. Here's one of my faves.
