Let's talk sustainability.

Sustainability is the capacity to endure. Here is one definition of sustainability from Dictionary.com: "the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance." Human being’s sustainability depends on our world’s sustainability. It’s all linked.

So how are we incorporating sustainability into Lilla Barn Clothing? Here are the big ones:

  1.  Textile waste in the fashion industry is huge. We use as much of our fabric as possible. Smaller scraps are sewn into headbands, pouches, bow ties, memory games, facial rounds and more. All other scraps are donated to quilters and crafters. Interested in getting some of our scraps? Send an email to bergen@lillabarn.com.
  2. We use recycled/recyclable packaging with the option of adding a recycled poly inner bag. This year we’re also moving to compostable packing tape and recycled/recyclable stickers and hang tags.
  3. We have limited the amount of extra stuff/packaging/paper/cards included in your online orders. No extra paper or cards when possible.
  4. We also print our own garment labels (you know the tags on the inside of your clothes that have the brand, size, and washing info on them). This way we know exactly what they are made from plus we only have to print the quantity needed.

Of course there are many other smaller tasks that are integrated with sustainable daily work. Curious to know more? Have suggestions for other changes we can make? Shoot an email to me at bergen@lillabarn.com.

Here are a few of the products we make with our scraps. Sustainable, pretty, AND useful! You can shop these pieces (btw) in our Accessories Collection
